What
do you want? Don’t hesitate about getting to the point when
asking for something. Present your topic in the first paragraph, and be
sure your position is clear. Be specific, letting the reader know
precisely what it is you are stating or asking.
Why
is this important? Supply plenty of details supporting your
position. Use facts, statistics, and examples to show why your request
is relevant and significant.
What
do you expect me to do? Let your reader know exactly what you
want from her or him, and include any deadlines for a response or
action.
What’s
in it for me? Probably the best persuasive technique you can
use is to show how your reader will benefit from your ideas. If you can
make your ideas personally important to your reader, you will surely
achieve your goal.
